Description

In 1979, the American Greetings Corporation produced 5,000 large prints of Lefevre J. Cranston’s 1860 watercolor, “The President’s House”, for President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter to give as Christmas gifts to White House staff. In 1980, the Carters again chose American Greetings produce 7,000 large Christmas gift prints using another painting entitled, “The President’s House”, by an unknown 19th century artist. President Carter liked this painting so much, he had it hung in the Oval Office. Both of these prints are from the collection of a former White House Communications Agency staff member who happened to be an accomplished picture framer and who framed both prints himself with double mats and non-glare glass. The outer dimensions of both frames are roughly 14” x 17”. The signatures of Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter are facsimiles.
